Tour Plan

Day 1

After the breakfast in hotel 4WD transports climbers to the Londrosi gate (2100m) for to get validation on registering and acquiring the trekking permit from the National Park. The drive is 4-5 hours from Moshi/Arusha so lunch is served at the gate, on wards drive further higher to the Shira ridge (3600m).

The flat hike starts at the heather for 1-2 hours to Shira 1 camp (3550m) for dinner and night accommodation.

Day 2:

After breakfast in the morning the trekking to Shira 2 camp (3850m) takes off for 3-4 hours on 8km trail through the moorland zone, hot lunch and dinner will be provided at the camp. After resting in the evening, a visitation to Shira caves or Shira needle and cathedral as acclimatization is considered. In the nights the twinkling stars brighten the infinity dark skies.

Day 3:

For it’s a long day the hike starts after early breakfast for 6-7 hours to Barranco camp(3950m) via Lava tower(4600m) and the trail is 11km long. Beginning with a gentle slope the trail leads to the big sights of the Kibo dome, hot lunch is served at the Lava tower and afterwards, the gradual descent to Baranco camp is accompanied by the western breach views and the giant Baranco wall closer to the camp.

Day 4:

After early breakfast the climbing of Baranco wall through “the kissing stone” takes around one hour, the summit of this huge wall has nice views of landscape above the clouds to take photos and a short rest. Continuing to Karanga camp (3963m) for 3 hours is slightly difficult especially down and up the Karanga valley. At the Karanga camp warm lunch is provided, an hour rest then proceed to complete the trekking to Barafu camp(4600m) where dinner is served earlier for its better to sleep more than three hours before the mid night summiting.

Day 5

The ascent from the base camp (Barafu) to the top of the mountain (Uhuru peak 5895m) starts in the mid night, the trail is short but very steep and the possible difficultness is the high altitude. Urged to walk slowly and sip water instantly be open to the guides about physical and mentor conditions. The 5km ascent takes about 6 hours and after conquering the summit, take some few minutes for photos and cheering on top. Then descending back to the base camp for about 3-4 hours and resting for 2 hours then continue with the descent to Mweka camp(3100m) after lunch.

Day 6:

Mweka camp being in the rain forest has more fresh air and lowering the altitude makes much better conditions for the rest of the descent to the Mweka gate(1640m), so after breakfast, the 4 hours hiking down 10km mostly wet and/or sleeper is followed by tipping ceremony, celebration songs and certificate awards at the exit. After lunch a drive back to the hotel.

  • Londrosi route duration varies from 6-8 days.
  • 7 days option will spend the night of day4 at the Karanga camp and continue to the Barafu/basecamp on the next day.
  • 8 days option; from the Shira 2 camp on day4 the night is spent at the Moir camp (4140m) then day5 be heading to the Baranco camp via the Lava tower, and the night of day6 be spent at the Karanga camp.
